Dr Tokunbo Awolowo Dosumu, daughter of the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, will be the special guest of honour at the command performance of a new play about the sage entitled: ‘Awo.’
‘Awo’ is a depiction of the life and times of the Papa Awolowo who played a very significant role in national development from the years immediately after independence through the Civil War up until his later life as the nation struggled to find its essence.
According to Joseph Edgar, the Duke of Shomolu who is the Executive Producer of the play, the need to throw up very strong leadership issues using the life of Chief Awolowo as a pedestal cannot be more than emphasised at this time.

President of the Association of Nigeria Theatre Practitioners (ANTP), Adewale Elesho has called on members of the other association, TAMPAN, especially the veterans there, to encourage more unity among theatre practitioners in Nigeria irrespective of which association they belong.
He made this call in a brief chat with Saturday Tribune Entertainment over the week as he said, even as a veteran and the president of ANTP, he still reverences some veterans in TAMPAN as he sees them as his older colleagues.
“I have some veterans in TAMPAN who I see as my egbons in the industry and I respect them, I respect their work and what they have achieved over the years. Just as we in ANTP have people in TAMPAN that we respect; they (TAMPAN) also have veterans they respect in ANTP too,” he said.

Issues about the National Theatre’s redevelopment seem to have ended with last week’s agreement between the Federal Government and bankers. AKIN ABODUNRIN examines the issues that have bedevilled a once upon a time national treasure.
TWENTY years after the journey to ‘privatise’, ‘concession’ and ‘transform into Entertainment City’ began, the National Theatre’s pesky issue appears to have been resolved. Last Sunday, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)/Bankers’ Committee and the Ministry of Information and Culture signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for its renovation.
The agreement signing happened only some five days after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the MoU between the parties. The complex’s handover to the CBN/Bankers Committee will see the body renovate it and create the Lagos Creative and Entertainment Centre. It will comprise film, music, IT and fashion hubs on its expansive fallow land.
