Rice Announces American Rescue Plan Funding $385 Million for Nassau County, $16 7 Million for Village of Hempstead

Photo by: Shutterstock U.S. Representative Kathleen Rice (NY-04) has announced that Nassau County will receive $385 million and the Village of Hempstead will receive $16.79 million in Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds. The relief funding was authorized in H.R. 1319, the American Rescue Plan Act, which Rice voted in support of when it passed the House of Representatives on March 10. President Biden signed the bill into law on March 11.     Additionally, New York State will be receiving $12.7 billion in direct assistance to the state government and $774.2 million for non-entitlement units. Other towns and villages within Nassau County are expected to receive recovery funds from the non-entitlement unit tranche.

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran Announces Student Vaccination Initiative

Photo by: Nassau County Nassau County Executive Laura Curran announced an upcoming Student Vaccination Initiative in partnership with Northwell Health a four-day High School vaccination event in the Nassau Community College gym from May 13 to 16. The initiative will be geared towards students aged 16 to 18 and will aim to vaccinate 500 teens a day.   As part of the Student Vaccination Initiative, school districts will assign student vaccine ambassadors who will receive a training from the Nassau County Dept. of Health, and encourage their peers to roll up their sleeve. Students who are vaccinated as part of the initiative will receive 6 hours of community service credit. The Pfizer vaccine, which is currently authorized for those 16+ up will be used.
