Bloomington plans to reopen all city facilities June 1 or 2 as part of the state’s bridge to Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois Plan, City Manager Tim Gleason told the city council on Monday.
Gov. JB Pritzker announced last week the month-long “bridge” will begin Friday. The transition aims to return Illinois to normal operations and capacities by June 11.
In other pandemic-related news, Gleason told the council the first half of Bloomington’s $14 million due from the latest federal COVID-relief package arrives this week, and the state will begin a rental assistance grant program next week. The council voted unanimously to eliminate late payment penalties for water bills through Phase 4.

Wine and food pairings have long been a part of the dining experience, but now one major consumer goods company has decided to promote the unconventional idea of choosing the food you’ll eat so as to harmonize with the soft drink you’ve picked out.
As part of a month-long promotion of its brands, beverage and snack food giant PepsiCo has created a “ghost” restaurant, Pep’s Place. Operating in conjunction with three major delivery services (Uber Eats, GrubHub, and DoorDash) and only available in selected markets, Pep’s Place, as PepsiCo’s press materials put it, “is where the cola comes first.”
The restaurant is looking for servers, hosts, retail associates, kitchen staff and management positions.

INDIANAPOLIS Cracker Barrel Old Country Store is looking to fill hundreds of jobs across the 14 Indianapolis-area stores.
The restaurant chain needs 400 new employees both full-time and part-time with all levels of experience.
Cracker Barrel is looking to hire servers, hosts, retail associates, kitchen staff and management positions.
This summer, the company will be rolling out a sweepstakes where employees can win cash and prizes, and anyone employed for at least 30 days is eligible to win.
