Putnam County to Vaccinate Seniors with NO Comorbidities Written by Putnam County The Putnam County Department of Health will soon be allowed to administer COVID-19 vaccinations to senior citizens who have no comorbidities, Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell announced Friday, following a meeting with Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s top advisors. In addition, County Executive Odell announced, the state has promised to significantly increase the county’s vaccine allotment, which means more residents can be vaccinated quickly.  “This is what we have been working toward, the opportunity to dispense as many vaccines as we are allocated, as quickly and as efficiently as possible,” County Executive Odell said. “The sooner we get these vaccines in our residents’ arms, the sooner we get this pandemic behind us, and the sooner we will see our children back in the classroom and our Main Street economy 100% reopen.”

State of the County Address Postponed

State of the County Address Postponed Written by Putnam County March 3, 2021 The State of the County address that Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell delivers each spring has been postponed because of COVID-19 gathering restrictions. She will not, however, give her prepared address, which was entitled “2021, A Year of Hope and Health.” “This is the second year in a row that COVID-19 pandemic has caused us to change our plans for the State of the County address,” Odell said. “I’m disappointed. This special meeting always gives us a chance to get together with residents, employees, union leaders, department heads and others and bring everyone up to speed on all that is happening in our county. State gives Putnam only 200 doses of Covid Vaccine this week for over 25,00 eligible recipients

State gives Putnam only 200 doses of Covid Vaccine this week for over 25,00 eligible recipients Written by Office of the Putnam County Executive It should be easier and faster to get COVID-19 vaccine, but the hard truth is that a lot of our most vulnerable residents are having to wait too long to be vaccinated, Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell said. Putnam County has almost 18,000 residents aged 65 or older. An estimated 2,600 residents work in law enforcement, firefighting or other protective service occupations.  Another 6,200 or so residents work in education and libraries, which the Census lumps together. Then there are 3,900 healthcare practitioners, technologists and technicians.  And don’t forget nursing home and group home staff and residents.  All of those residents and more are eligible for vaccination under state rules.

COVID-19 vaccine distribution sites

Written by Putnam County Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell praised the county health department for establishing COVID-19 vaccine distribution sites, and called for the public’s patience as we await more vaccine supply. The Putnam County Department of Health administered 307 vaccines to seniors 75 and older and essential workers on Thursday at the Philipstown Recreation Center. That follows two successful vaccine points of dispensing, or PODS, at the Carmel Friendship Center, which vaccinated 611 people. “Thursday’s venue was ideal, it means the health department now has a location in Philipstown and another in Carmel to administer the vaccine,” said County Executive Odell. “I even heard seniors remark how nice it was to see friends who they hadn’t seen since the Office of Senior Resources programs were paused early last year.”
