Corruption Latest: Policeman arrested for allegedly bribing brothel owner
The Hawks swooped on a senior policeman who has been charged in a corruption case for allegedly demanding R60 000 from a brothel owner.
The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation unit in Germiston conducted a sting operation which led to the arrest of a 55-year-old senior policeman on charges of extortion and corruption this week.
Hawks Investigators swooped on an SAPS lieutenant colonel who is attached as a member of the Douglasdale police station, in Johannesburg after he was positively linked to allegations of extortion and corruption allegations on Wednesday 7 April.
Hawks spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said the lieutenant colonel’s arrest was linked to a case of alleged extortion and corruption which took place at a Bed & Breakfast establishment in Randburg.

NATIONAL NEWS - A South African Social Services Agency (SASSA) employee in Mpumalanga faces the grim prospect of jail time for allegedly falsifying her qualifications.
On Monday, Alina Dimakatso Nkwanyana Selepe was released on R3000 bail after she was arrested on Friday by the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation unit in Mpumalanga.
In a statement, the Hawks said the Volkrust resident is facing fraud charges.
“It is alleged that in 2006 there was an advertised post for team leader: administration in the department of SASSA. In applying for the said position, the suspect submitted a fraudulent matric certificate, which was one of the requirements for that job. As a result, the suspect was employed and appointed as a team leader: administration at SASSA, Volkrust in Mpumalanga,” said the Hawks.

Johannesburg - A South African Social Security Agency official who allegedly used a fraudulent matric certificate to obtain a job has been charged with R4-million fraud, which is how much the agency spent on her salary in a period of 14 years.
Alina Dimakatso Nkwanyana Selepe allegedly used a fraudulent matric certificate to obtain her job as a team leader for administration at Sassa in 2006.
She was only flagged once Sassa conducted an audit with the Department of Basic Education when they found that the matric certificate was allegedly fraudulent.
