BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) Alabama’s largest health care unit for treating HIV patients has moved to a larger location.
The 1917 Clinic, located for three decades at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and named for its original street address, has moved from its old home in downtown to a new site nearby, the school said in a statement Tuesday.
The clinic has more than doubled in size to 27 examination rooms, and it added a second room for medical procedures and new space for counseling services.
With more than 3,600 active patients being treated at the clinic, director James Raper said the expansion will help provide comprehensive care for people with HIV, which can cause AIDS if left untreated.
