Vancouver s LGBT organization Rainbow Refugee announces leadership changes that reflect expansion

On March 4, Rainbow Refugee announced that Aleks Selim Dughman Manzur (who uses the pronouns they/them) has been appointed the organization’s first programming director, who will lead the community nonprofit’s sponsorship, settlement, support, outreach, and advocacy programs. In addition, Manzur is part of a new two-person leadership team that oversees the organization’s development. Manzur, who identifies as transmasculine, was born in Palestine and grew up in Chile before immigrating to Canada in 2008, and is a lawyer who specializes in human rights, women’s rights, reproductive and sexual health law, LGBT+ rights, and refugee rights. 

Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada announces judicial appointments in the province of Ontario

The Honourable John Alexander Finlayson, a judge of the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto, is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, Family Court Branch. Mr. Justice Finlayson replaces Mr. Justice A.R. Rowsell (Oshawa), who elected to become a supernumerary judge effective November 23, 2020.

CSA proposal to come could reshape oversight of investment, mutual fund dealers

The Canadian Securities Administrators says it will soon release a long-anticipated paper outlining its position on the future of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada and Mutual Fund Dealers Association of Canada. Louis Morisset, CSA chair and chief executive of Quebec’s Autorité des marchés financiers, says the CSA’s forthcoming recommendations on the future of the two bodies will have a significant and long-lasting effect on investors and Canadian capital markets.
