The Mississippi State Department of Health announced on Wednesday that a recent surge in COVID-19 vaccination appointments has committed the departmentâs entire supply of vaccines, meaning appointment scheduling wonât resume until after a resupply next month.
The stateâs vaccine distribution plan was significantly altered over the past few days, first opening up vaccination appointments to those 75 and older on Jan. 6, and then opening it up on Tuesday to Mississippians 65 and older or who have underlying medical conditions.
According to the state health department, the expansion of those eligible for vaccination rapidly consumed the vaccinesâ current availability.

Columbia woman faces charges Updated: 2:13 PM CST Jan 15, 2021 A 10-year-old girl is in critical condition at a Jackson hospital after she was shot at her home in Marion County, authorities said.Chief Deputy Jamie Singley, with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, said in a news release that 34-year-old Kimberly Renee Luter was trying to shoot at a dog.“While firing at the dog, projectiles entered the residence, striking a 10-year-old female juvenile,” Singley said.Deputies were dispatched to the shooting on Franklin Drive shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday. They were then informed that the girl was on her way to a hospital. Singley said units from the Sheriff’s Office and the Columbia Police Department escorted the victim to the Marion General Hospital.
