Scientists find new drug to treat Lewy body dementia

Scientists find new drug to treat Lewy body dementia Credit: CC0 Public Domain Lewy body dementia is a disease linked to abnormal protein deposits called Lewy bodies in the brain. Lewy bodies affect chemicals in the brain whose changes, in turn, can lead to problems with thinking, movement, behavior, and mood. Lewy body dementia is the second most common type of progressive dementia after Alzheimer’s disease dementia. There are no approved treatments for Lewy body dementia, and it is important to find therapies for this and related brain disorders. In a recent study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, researchers found that people with mild-to-moderate Lewy body dementia (LBD) had a big improvement in cognition when they took the drug neflamapimod three times daily.

That would be a cure worse than the disease,” she wrote. “But let’s not count on the hope that the Fox-controlling Murdochs will develop a conscience. No, the only answer is to speak the language that the bigwigs at Fox will understand: Ratings. Advertising dollars. Profit.” Major advertisers, she wrote, should abandon Fox. Consumers should pressure them to do so.
