by University Marketing and Communications Has the pandemic impacted your research, scholarship or creative works? If so, University Marketing and Communications wants to share your story in a series of guest blogs on the University research blog, Unscripted.  From closed labs to canceled concerts and gallery shows, to animal and human subject research restrictions, COVID-19 altered many parts of the research, scholarship and creative works ecosystem. Nearly all of the people who work within this area were affected both those who actively produce these works and those who support their production.  The blog series is part of an effort to acknowledge, support and rebuild robust research, scholarship and creative works at Michigan Tech. It will focus on six to eight separate stories, sharing an individual s specific challenge and potential or existing campuswide solutions. by Facilities Management Editor s note: This story has been updated to reflect the most recent information from the Michigan Department of Transportation. The original date of the traffic shift was Monday (July 26). Phase 3 of construction for the US-41 Road Project is scheduled to begin Wednesday (July 28), and changes to the traffic pattern will occur. During Phase 3 of construction: US-41 will no longer have two-way traffic. Northbound traffic will be rerouted onto Cliff Drive and around the back of campus. Southbound traffic will be shifted onto the new pavement on the northbound side of the highway. Cliff Drive will remain open to two-way traffic.

DeCesare completed both her A.A.S. in civil engineering technology and her B.S. in construction management at Michigan Tech, graduating in 2005 and 2007, respectively. She is currently a project manager of public projects for CSX Transportation and was nominated by another CSX employee. 

Officials rehiring events staff after layoffs last year

In-person events and speakers have been a staple of GW s brand, but officials laid off many event staff once the pandemic hit. As GW prepares for an in-person fall semester, officials are expanding the University’s Events and Venues team after many members of the department were laid off last summer to mitigate the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Paul Hegarty, the associate vice president of events, said he hopes to have staff begin the newly-posted positions by August 30 – the first day of fall classes – including roles like a venue manager and an assistant director for scheduling. Administrators laid off 339 staff last year in administrative units like events, communications, information technology, career services, athletics and facilities as they faced a roughly $180 million annual revenue gap.
