A New Orleans law enforcement officer was fatally shot intervening in an altercation at a high school basketball game Friday, authorities said.
Cpl. Martinus Mitchum was a Tulane University police officer and a reserve officer for the Second City Court, New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said. Corporal Mitchum was a dedicated police professional who had a heart of service for the Tulane community, Tulane University and its police department said in a joint statement on Saturday. A dog that was severely burned in a fire will become the first canine to undergo a new breakthrough treatment to heal her.
Sadie, a 2-year-old terrier mix, was injured when a heat lamp and hay in her kennel to keep her warm in the winter weather caught on fire, WWL in New Orleans reported.
Sadie was burned on 70% of her body, according to the report. A veterinary surgeon, Dr. Dena Lodato, stepped in to help, and Sadie is being treated with hyperbaric oxygen and pain medication.

On Thursday, the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans dismissed physician Princess Dennar as the program director of its combined internal medicine and pediatrics residency program. She had been the first and only Black woman to be program director at Tulane’s medical school.
By Friday, the social media furor had begun.
The hashtag #DNRTulane, or “Do Not Rank Tulane,” flared on Twitter, referring to the match process medical students go through to express their preferred residency programs, as did #JusticeForDrDennar. Now, the outpouring of posts and petitions decrying the termination of Dennar’s position at Tulane is generating a national conversation about racial inequities and discrimination that physicians of color, especially underrepresented women of color, face in academic medicine.

January 13, 2021 – The European Medicines Agency has discovered that hackers have posted online the COVID-19 vaccine data exfiltrated during a previous cyber attack on the EU regulator. As previously reported, the hacked server contained vaccine data from pharmaceutical giants Pfizer and BioNTech.
The EMA regulates the EU’s efforts for vaccine reviews and approvals of COVID-19 research, treatments and vaccines. Pfizer and BioNTech submitted their COVID-19 vaccine data to the regulator for approval prior to the attack.
