MSU’s growth along Medical Mile to generate $339 million annual economic impact

GRAND RAPIDS, MI Michigan State University’s growth along the Medical Mile will result in an estimated $339 million economic impact each year in Kent County, officials announced Monday, April 12.
That figure comes from an economic analysis of four buildings, two of which are under construction, that comprise the university’s presence along the Medical Mile the stretch of Michigan Street north of downtown Grand Rapids.

ALLENDALE, MI - One man is in critical condition following an early Saturday morning shooting that injured four at an Allendale apartment complex near Grand Valley State University.
Two other victims remained hospitalized and one was released, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said in an afternoon update.
The shooting occurred at Enclave Apartments on 48th Avenue and Lake Michigan Drive around 12:15 a.m. Saturday, April 10.
Deputies found three men at the scene suffering from gunshot wounds. A fourth victim left the area before police arrived and sought treatment at a Grand Rapids hospital.

Tonya Mosley was 13 when she boarded a bus in northwest Detroit and took it downtown to the Detroit Free Press to meet editor Bob McGruder in 1993. McGruder, who had been named editor of the paper earlier that year, had arranged for Mosley to spend a day shadowing a journalist.
It was her first time taking the bus that far.
“I was like an hour late, and when I got there, this journalist had actually called in sick,” said Mosley, who is the co-host of the NPR and WBUR radio show, Here & Now.
