Flintshire-based Walk & Talk Today overwhelmed by public support for gift bag appeal

A CHARITY shop supporting families of domestic abuse has been overwhelmed by kind donations for their latest appeal. In November Louise Rudd, the founder of the Walk & Talk Today charity shop in Ffynnongroew, put a post on the charity’s Facebook page asking if the public would like to donate gift boxes or gift bags with some gifts and sweets for the families currently housed in domestic abuse refuges throughout North Wales. A target was set for 60 children and over the past month, the charity has been inundated with generous thoughtful gifts. Susan Terry, a manager at Global Lift Equipment in Flint and a volunteer for the charity, turned her boardroom into a temporary Santa’s workshop and - with the help of her team - completed 152 individual gift bags and boxes, all of which were overflowing!

We need to consider not what we can do but what we should do

Hannah Blythyn, MS for Delyn By Hannah Blythyn, MS for Delyn Over the weekend I took some time out to do a touch of Christmas shopping, calling in to a number of local businesses, purchasing gifts for family and friends. Of course, I did this on Small Business Saturday to emphasise my support for independent businesses, but Leader readers will know that I firmly believe we should be supporting our local businesses all year round. They are often the anchor and heart of our high streets, town centres and communities. This year many businesses have shown what community means to them in the way they have adapted to continue to serve their customers and support their communities. So now its our turn to repay the favour. When you re looking for Christmas gifts, please consider whether you can buy it from a small, independent, business rather than a retail giant, and show that you Love Local .
