US, Pakistan diplomats discuss court s Pearl ruling

Pakistan Lawyers Seek Review Of Daniel Pearl Murder Acquittals

Pakistan Lawyers Seek Review Of Daniel Pearl Murder Acquittals 01/29/21 AT 1:59 PM Pakistani prosecutors filed a last-ditch attempt Friday to overturn the acquittal of a British-born militant convicted of masterminding the murder of American journalist Daniel Pearl, as the new US secretary of state directly pressed on the case. Pakistan s top court on Thursday dismissed an appeal against a lower court s decision to clear Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh and three others over the killing, after nearly two decades in jail. The decision extended a legal tug of war between the Sindh provincial government who kept the group behind bars using emergency powers and the courts.

Truth Will Prevail: Calls for Justice From Family Continue as US Says Ready to Take Custody of Daniel Pearl Killer

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday pledged to rebuild and revitalise the transatlantic military alliance after a bruising. “We all know that Omar Saeed Sheikh was the mastermind of Danny’s kidnapping,” she told the newspaper on Friday. “His lies lured Danny into an interview in Karachi on January 23, 2002 and a month later Danny was dead. Three months later his body was found in an unmarked grave. This is the truth, no matter what any court says.” “The defendants in this court case and the justices who acquitted them know that this is the truth, but the lies continue,” she added. “Neither verdict would have brought Danny back but lies are corrosive. We trust that somehow truth will prevail.”
