Indian national arrested for alleged sexual assault of teenager

KOTA KINABALU: An Indian national was arrested for allegedly outraging the modesty of his 15-year-old worker and attempting to rape her at a sundry shop in the Sinsuran area here. The 33-year-old suspect was arrested after the girl lodged a police report about the assault at the store of the sundry shop at around 2.30pm last Sunday (March 25). She claimed that she was tidying up the store on the 1st floor of the shop when the suspect came in and assaulted her with the intention to rape her. The girl subsequently screamed for help and managed to escape. She returned to the sundry shop, where she continued work as usual until closing time.

Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz handed the sentence to Tudiman Mattani who changed his plea and pleaded guilty to the charge against during the trial of his case on Monday. Tudiman committed the offence against the girl between March and May, last year between 8pm and 3am in a bedroom of a rented house in Simpang Ulu, Sipitang. ADVERTISEMENT The offence under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.
