Accordingly, both Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation ( PCMC) banned the practice at all their headquarters and ward offices. Industries also follow the norms. Instead, all the employees were asked to mark their attendance in the attendance register (as done prior to the launch of the biometric system) during this time. Many chose the new practice to mark the attendance through video calls too.

Health workers preparing to join their Covid shift in the city MUMBAI: On a day the Covid-19 death toll crossed 70,000 in the state, new cases dropped below 60,000 for the first time in five days on Sunday. The government update said 56,647 new cases and 669 deaths were registered in the morning, with the daily death count having dropped below 700 after two days. Only 350 of the deaths registered were from the past 48 hours, and the remaining were fatalities that were registered now despite having occurred much before. Over 15,776 of the new cases were from the Pune administrative circle. Cases in the Pune Municipal Corporation and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation jurisdictions numbered over 11,000, much higher than the 9,700 reported in the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The MMR recorded 156 new deaths and the Pune circle, 129.
