Peorian Christopher Coleman dies after head-on wreck on U S Route 24

BARTONVILLE  A Peoria man died Friday after a head-on wreck on U.S. Route 24, Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said. Christopher L. Coleman, 47, was driving a midsize sedan westbound on Route 24 near West Pfeiffer Road when he crossed the center line about 5:45 a.m., Harwood said. The sedan hit an eastbound truck head-on, causing the car to roll multiple times, Harwood said. Coleman was taken to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria in critical condition. Despite aggressive resuscitative efforts, he was pronounced dead at 6:39 a.m., Harwood said. The cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma injuries, Harwood said.

WCBU file photo A 59-year-old man has been identified as the person who died in a Sunday afternoon house fire in Peoria s North Valley. According to Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood, Kenneth Carson was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 2 p.m. Peoria firefighters found Carson on the floor inside the one-story home in the 600 block of Spitznagle Avenue. Harwood said Monday that Carson died of smoke inhalation and excessive burns covering his entire body. There was no evidence of any other injuries or trauma, and toxicology tests are pending. Firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after 1:30 p.m. and had the fire extinguished within 10 minutes before locating Carson. A dog at the residence was taken into custody by Animal Control.

Fatal Peoria crash: Diana Schick had DUI previously

Diana Schick was cited for a DUI in 2011. PEORIA A West Peoria woman faces a felony count following a fatal wreck in Peoria earlier this month. Diana M. Schick, 40, has been charged in Peoria County Circuit Court with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving a death, a Class 1 felony. That classification is punishable by up to 15 years in prison. Schick is being held at the Peoria County Jail under $200,000 bond, meaning she would have to post $20,000 to be released. A preliminary hearing is set for March 11. Schick was arrested Feb. 12 after a three-vehicle wreck in the 100 block of South Western Avenue. Shortly after 6 p.m., emergency personnel arrived to find an SUV off the road, tipped onto its passenger side. Of two occupants, one was partially ejected and pinned under the SUV, according to a Peoria Police Department report. An officer checked her pulse but found none, the report stated.
