PEORIA, Ill. The Peoria City/County Health Department announced Tuesday local hospitals are still awaiting their shipments of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine.
“We don’t have shipping confirmation as of yet,” said Chief Nurse Officer at OSF Healthcare St. Francis Medical Center Jennifer Hopwood.
Unlike the process of receiving Pfizer’s vaccine, shipments will come directly from Moderna, according to Hopwood.
Hopwood also said about 10% of the workforce who come into contact with coronavirus patients at OSF St. Francis Medical Center and its surrounding locations received Pfizer’s vaccine last week.
PEORIA COVID-19 deaths in the Tri-County Area continue to surge, even as the area’s positivity rate and the number of new cases drop.
Fourteen Peoria-area residents died within the past 24 hours, and a total of 44 have died since last week. The number of COVID-19 deaths since Dec. 1 is 105, with more than a week left in the month, putting the Peoria region on track for the deadliest month so far.
Between the first report by area health departments in November and the beginning of December, 108 deaths were reported.
The 14 deaths reported Tuesday broke down to six in Peoria County, one in Tazewell County and seven in Woodford County. The area now has had 362 deaths, with just under a third of those coming in the past 22 days.
