Biden pledges US will halve greenhouse gases

Biden pledges US will halve greenhouse gases At international summit, President Joe Biden says US will double climate assistance to developing countries and cut 50% of domestic emissions by 2030. April 22, 2021 8 MINS President Joe Biden brought the U.S. back into the global fight against climate change on Thursday, pledging at an international summit he convened to halve emissions of greenhouse gases by 2030 and double climate aid to developing nations. Poor countries made clear at the summit that they expect money from wealthier nations in exchange for accelerating their own efforts to curb warming, while China and India stuck to plans to continue growing their own carbon emissions before making any cuts, dismaying environmentalists who say the world remains on course toward catastrophe.

Between the climate agenda, the new infrastructure package, the scheduled climate summit and the anticipated announcement of the new U.S. commitments for the Paris Climate Agreement, one might think that there is plenty of climate policy already on the agenda. But grapevine rumors suggest that Representative Alexandria Ocasio Cortez plans also to reintroduce the Green New Deal resolution this week. Is that roadmap really toward a brighter future, with a healthier climate and thriving economy with clean, carbon-free jobs? The answer is no.

(AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite) Progressives should be pretty content right now. The Biden administration is using all their preferred talking points and enshrining them into the administrative state. Whether it is systemic racism, equity, the climate crisis, or “justice” related to any of the priorities of progressives, the phrases fall from the mouth of Joe Biden in almost every speech that he diligently reads off the teleprompter. Equity, trans rights, and climate mandates have been enshrined in every executive order someone wrote for him to sign.
