B’baria mayhem: 5 more Hefazat men arrested

Five more people have been arrested in the past 24 hours in connection with last month s mayhem by Hefazat-e-Islam supporters in Brahmanbaria, police said on Friday.
The arrests were made from different parts of Brahmanbaria after identifying the accused from video footage and images taken during the violence, the district police said.
So far, 55 cases have been filed and 392 people nabbed over the rampage, the police said in a release.
On March 27, at least five people were killed and around 50 others, including 25 cops, injured in clashes between members of law enforcement agencies and locals during Hefazat’s demonstrations at Nandanpur in Sadar upazila.They had staged the protests against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh.
Another four people were arrested in the past 24 hours until Thursday morning in connection with the clashes and vandalism carried out by Hefazat-e-Islam activists and supporters in Brahmanbaria last month. So far, 55 cases have been filed and 387 people arrested over the violence, the police

Twenty-one days after the authorities claimed that none of its students took part in March 26 vandalism and arson, Al Jamia Al Islamia Al Yunusiya Madrasa expelled 20 students for allegedly taking part in the mayhem in Brahmanbaria.
The madrasa, locally called Boro Madrasa , took the action amid the ongoing drives being conducted by the law enforcers to arrest those involved with the incident, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent.
The expulsion was announced through a notice signed by the madrasa s Education Secretary Mufti Shamsul Haque Saraili yesterday afternoon.

Six more people have been arrested in the past 24 hours in connection with last month s mayhem by Hefazat-e-Islam supporters in Brahmanbaria, police said on Tuesday.
The arrests were made from different parts of Brahmanbaria after identifying the accused from video footage and images taken during the violence, the district police said.
Two of the six arrested have been identified as Sadekpr Union Chartra Olama Oikko Parishad’s secretary Kwari Md Mojammel Haque and Ashuganj upajila Hefazat-e-Islam and Imam Parishad secretary Maulana Mufti Obaydullah.
So far, 55 cases have been filed and 375 people nabbed over the rampage, the district police said in a release.
