The government is rolling out vaccinations to all adults in the United Kingdom and expects all adults to have been offered a first dose by the end of July 2021.
On 16 April 2021 the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation issued new advice for pregnant women, advising that vaccination is appropriate and recommended. Previously, vaccination was recommended in pregnancy only for women at a high risk of catching the virus or due to a pre-existing medical condition.
On 14 April 2021 the government launched a consultation on making vaccination compulsory for those working in care homes (allowing an exemption for those with a medical condition preventing vaccination). The government has expressed a desire to change the law quickly with the consultation closing on 21 May 2021. The government is continuing to review whether it may be necessary to extend any policy to other parts of the adult and social care sectors.
