A lot has happened since the last round of expansion and even a lot since last year. But one thing that hasn’t changed is discussion about expansion. Given that, maybe it’s a good time for a bit of a look at where things stand.
In the last round of expansion there were 15 bids that stuck around, which were then cut down to a shortlist of ten for consideration. The list of 15 were Western United, Macarthur, South West Sydney, Southern Expansion, Team 11 in Dandenong, Wollongong Wolves, South Melbourne, Western Pride in Ipswich, Canberra and Capital Region, Brisbane City, Gold Coast United, West Adelaide, Belgravia Leisure, Tasmania and Fremantle City.
Queensland has recorded five new local cases of Covid overnight - but Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the lockdown for millions of residents will still end at 6pm on Saturday night.
The state detected a mystery local Covid case late on Friday evening, with Brisbane and the neighbouring Moreton Bay residents fearing that would jeopardise their chance of being freed from the four-day lockdown.
The Premier eased those fears in a press conference on Saturday morning despite confirming the five new community cases. There were 25,145 tests conducted in Queensland on Friday. The lockdown will end at 6:00pm tonight. But we are not out of the woods yet. So, I want to talk about a few things that I really need Queenslanders to do, especially in the south-east and, of course, Townsville, she said.

Changes to stay-at-home orders for other states
Stay-at-home requirements for people in NSW who have been in Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and certain local government areas in Queensland have now been lifted.
NSW Health has revoked the stay-at-home orders for returned interstate travellers in line with the public health advice in those states. However, anyone entering NSW who has been in Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland and Victoria in the previous 14 days must still complete a declaration form confirming they have not been to any of the exposure venues. Restrictions still apply if people have been to an exposure venue.
