PORT AUSTIN, Mich. - (07/17/21)-Residents at the tip of Michigan’s Thumb have been passing the hat and helping each other recover from a June tornado that destroyed dozens of properties with its 120 mph winds. A recent fundraiser that included a silent raffle and cornhole tournament raised approximately $10,000. The money was given to the Lions Club in Port Austin, which will distribute it to people in need. Dozens of properties in Huron County were destroyed on June 26 by the tornado. Patrick Foogazi, who helped organize the fundraiser, says people dropped off checks, and the winner of a cornhole tournament even donated his winnings to the effort.

(WJRT) - (07/15/2021) - People living in an Arenac County neighborhood were shaken up on Thursday night. A police standoff lasting roughly 12 hours ended with two men dead inside a home in White’s Beach neighborhood. A family from Livonia in Metro Detroit is renting a vacation home for the week for some peace and quiet, but their steady sleep was disrupted by loud yelling in the wee hours Thursday morning. Outside their front window, police cars were everywhere.

(WJRT) (7/11/2021) With most of the state’s coronavirus restrictions all but off the books, tributes typically geared toward military veterans, now increasingly also honor the individuals who made the reopening possible: our healthcare heroes. A rally in Michigan’s Little Bavaria Sunday recognized their service and sacrifice while performing an important service. “We just go with the flow but when we’re flying with a patient, it can definitely… crank the adrenaline up.” Paramedic Rudy Rakan spends his days saving lives aboard a Flight Care helicopter. Rounding between several different hospitals at the height of the pandemic, he admits there were some dark moments.
