The Blue Downs Regional Court will hear a bail application on Friday involving controversial businessman Nafiz Modack and several other co-accused. Modack, an alleged underworld kingpin, faces a raft of charges, including alleged gang activity, being part of a hand grenade plot against slain Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) detective Charl Kinnear, and a shooting at the home of Cape Town lawyer, William Booth. For security purposes, Modack and his co-accused were moved for one consolidated bail application.

According to provincial police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk, the two suspects, aged 28 and 30, were found with drugs in their possession when an intelligence-driven operation focusing on activities in and around the court was conducted on Thursday. Van Wyk said court orderlies received information that drugs were being smuggled into the holding cells, destined for a gang member who was set to appear in a case.

Nafiz Modack supporters call for his release, believe he is a man for the people Share Cape Town - Supporters stood firm outside the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on Monday, calling for the release of alleged underworld kingpin Nafiz Modack. A group of supporters wearing masks which read “Modack Group” carried placards calling for his release. They claim that Modack’s arrest is a plot against him for all the good he does. Modack appeared alongside Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) member Sergeant Ashley Tabisher on corruption charges on Monday. Modack is separately charged with conspiracy to commit murder after a hand grenade was thrown at the Bishop Lavis home of former Lieutenant-Colonel Charl Kinnear months before his assassination last year.

Nafiz Modack returned to court on Monday in preparation for a mega bail application.  In the Bishop Lavis leg of the court case, Modack is alleged to have corrupted an Anti-Gang Unit member for inside information on raids.  The matters will be consolidated into one big application in Blue Downs on 14 May.  Suspected Cape Town underworld figure Nafiz Modack returned to the Bishop Lavis Magistrate s Court on Monday in the latest appearance for the numerous criminal cases he now faces.  SEE | Modack complained that he had to sleep on hard concrete, and that he had needed a doctor to attend to his kidney problems as a result. 

Nafiz Modack and Zane Kilian don t blink as they shar

On Friday, 7 May, murder accused Zane Kilian and Nafiz Modack shared the dock with co-accused Jacques Cronje and Ricardo Morgan. However, their brief appearance didn’t relate to either Kinnear’s murder or the attempted hit on Booth. The purpose of the appearance was to add Kilian’s name to the charge sheet relating to extortion and kidnapping stemming from an incident on 9 March 2020 near the Crystal Towers Hotel on Rialto Road in Century City, Cape Town. The victim was businessman Sameer Vallie. The charges of intimidation, kidnapping, extortion, money laundering and contravention of the Electronic Communication Act had already been put to Modack, Cronje and Morgan on Monday, 3 May, in the same court.
