Over the Easter weekend, photos began to surface on Facebook showing British Columbia s provincial health officer unmasked at an airport.
Another photo appeared to show Dr. Bonnie Henry boarding a helicopter.
Commenters claimed the health official was flying to Victoria to visit family over the long weekend, violating her own guidelines on non-essential travel.
“That’s the crime. Lyme disease mimics more than 300 different illnesses. Doctors are not ruling it out in Canada before they’re giving their patients a diagnosis. That’s a crime. It’s seriously messed up.” The disease is caused by bacteria called Borrelia and is spread by bites from infected ticks. Early diagnosis and antibiotic treatment are important because Lyme disease can lead to serious complications if left untreated, according to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC). Freeman does not blame doctors, but points the finger at Infectious Disease Society of America guidelines that, if not followed by Canadian doctors, could lead to harsh criticism and negative impact on their careers.
2,491 new COVID-19 infections in B.C. over the weekend, 206 in Interior Health

2,491 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in B.C. between Friday and Monday, while 206 have been confirmed in Interior Health.
Breaking down the weekend’s cases:
Friday to Saturday: 881
Sunday to Monday: 763
According to data from the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), the Kootenay Boundary region has confirmed 57 COVID-19 cases between April 16th and 22nd. Since the start of the pandemic, the region has seen 373 infections.
As for the Interior Health region, 614 cases remain active, with 38 people being treated in hospital, 17 of whom are in intensive care.
Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s provincial health officer, and Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, have issued the following joint statement regarding updates on the COVID-19 response in British Columbia: “Today, we are reporting on three periods: from April 23 to 24, we had 881 new cases, from April 24 to 25, we had 847 new cases and in the last 24 hours, we had a further 763 new cases.
