New Mexico State University Cooperative Extension Service and New Mexico Department of Health will host webinars about COVID-19 vaccine education April 13 and April 14. The free, one-hour event will begin at 6 p.m. on Zoom.
The webinars will feature Kathryn Hanley, NMSU Regents professor of biology, and topics will include the science behind COVID-19 vaccination development; science behind vaccinations in controlling COVID-19 spread; and efficacy of available vaccines in preventing COVID-19 hospitalization and death in clinical trials. A public interest question and answer session also will be part of the presentation.
“I think it is important for NMSU Cooperative Extension Service to help provide research-based information for the citizens of New Mexico and help the New Mexico Department of Health in the dissemination of information for those who want to take advantage of the program,” said Tom Dean, Extension Southwest District director
State Senate Confirms 25 College And University Regents To Boards Across New Mexico

SANTA FE Twenty-five highly-qualified New Mexicans have been nominated by Gov. Lujan Grisham and confirmed by the State Senate to serve on Boards of Regents at public colleges, universities, and special schools across the state.
“This year’s cadre of regents includes individuals with a high level of experience and enthusiasm for higher education, which will be key for guiding our state institutions forward in the coming years,” Higher Education Department Secretary Stephanie Rodriguez said. “We look forward to collaborating with them and all higher education leadership to ensure that New Mexico’s students and schools succeed.”

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed House Bill 212, also known as Remaking NMSU Carlsbad branch campus into an independent College, on April 7.
HB 212 creates the Southeast New Mexico College effective July 1, 2021. It was passed in the New Mexico House and New Mexico Senate during the 2021 regular legislative session, along with its companion bill Senate Bill 236. I could not be more pleased with the outcome, said New Mexico Rep. Cathrynn Brown who sponsored HB 212. While we will always honor New Mexico State University as an excellent institution of higher education and we are thankful for our many years of alliance with the NMSU system, the coming change will be markedly beneficial.
