Joe Christian, a self-described tech guy, says he hasn’t been affected much personally by the pandemic because “I’m a natural social distancer.”
But Christian, the head of Nusenda Credit Union, and his leadership team have been working hard to keep customers and employees safe.
They try to keep remotely-working employees connected through such means as delivering Girl Scout cookies, holding online sessions about dealing with the pandemic’s challenges and sharing home office pictures â “Typically it involves a cat or a dog on a keyboard.”

Christian has been at Nusenda for 35 years and was named president/CEO in May 2019.

The New Mexico State University School of Nursing is exploring the feasibility of developing a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree concentration in nurse anesthesiology that would focus on rural health and health disparities. It would be the first program of its kind in New Mexico. A University of Wyoming scientist whose work springs from the needs of Wyoming forage producers and another whose focus is increasing sheep producer profitability have received outstanding research awards from UW’s Wyoming Agricultural Experiment Station (WAES).
Anowar Islam, a professor in the Department of Plant Sciences, received the Outstanding Research Award. Whit Stewart, an assistant professor in the Department of Animal Science, received the Early Career Research Award.
WAES is the research branch of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
Islam joined UW in 2008 as an assistant professor and has received over $3.8 million in research funding.
