Vaccine distributed to members of at-risk community April 10, 2021 at 7:05 PM EDT - Updated April 10 at 7:05 PM Hundreds of people living in at-risk communities in South Florida are getting help with COVID-19 vaccines. FoundCare, a nonprofit federally qualified health center partnered with the Florida Department of Health and the City of Lake Worth Beach on Saturday to offer free COVID-19 vaccinations at The Sacred Heart Catholic Church. 500 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine were distributed to minority individuals in the community who do not have access to public transportation or computers to book appointments. “They don’t even know to access some of these phone numbers to call folks. So by doing it at the grassroots level, we are finding that we are meeting the needs of those folks,” said Yolette Bonnet, CEO of FoundCare, Inc.

Lloyd Joseph Welter “LJW”, 84, of Monticello, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2021, at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade. Visitation will be held from 3 – 8 pm Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello.  Visitation will continue Wednesday from 9:30 – 10:30 am at the funeral home prior to Mass. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello.  Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate.  Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors.  Services will be live streamed via the Sacred Heart Facebook page.  Masks are required at Mass and social distancing is encouraged.

More than three in five Florida seniors 65 and older are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, an analysis of state data shows, but Black and Hispanic residents remain disproportionately unvaccinated. Florida health officials reported Saturday that 2,704,788 seniors statewide have received the Moderna and Pfizer booster shots or the one-shot Johnson & Johnson formula. That accounts for 60.1% of Florida s estimated 4,498,198 seniors.
