La Verne Ford Wimberly, an 82-year-old retired Tulsa Public Schools administrator, gained global recognition and acclaim in March because she was at the center of a story-gone-viral: She dressed in her Sunday best for a year’s worth of Metropolitan Baptist Church services even though she was watching services from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Each Sunday brought a new combination of hats and apparel. Wimberly snapped selfies of herself in each ensemble and posted photos on Facebook along with words intended to lift up others.

Petersburg Schools honors Teacher of the Year Courtnee Austin

The Progress-Index PETERSBURG – As a child, Courtnee Austin was always playing “school” at home. She would set her bed with stuffed animals, the family dog and her sometimes-willing younger brother, then start teaching lessons.   The daughter of a mother who taught in Petersburg City Public Schools for over 30 years, you could say it was only a matter of time before she followed in those footsteps. Austin has now been an elementary school teacher in Petersburg for over 15 years. Last week, PCPS bestowed a great honor upon her – Teacher of the Year for the entire school system.  Austin got a surprise visit to her classroom at Cool Spring Elementary by Superintendent Dr. Maria Pitre-Martin. All Austin heard was the sound of music coming down the hallway. At first, she didn’t think much of it, the school system makes periodic visits with celebratory music, but this time it was for her.

Man Defends Diddy at Black Rob s Funeral Service

Man Defends Diddy at Black Rob s Funeral Service VladTV 11,097 views   Former Bad Boy artist Black Rob was laid to rest on Friday, at the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Harlem. During the funeral service, various friends, family, and Bad Boy alumni offered kind words about the late rapper. Days before Black Rob s death, people questioned Diddy after his former artist was seen in poor health and revealed he was homeless. Despite former peers defending the rap mogul, others such as Black Rob s manager called Diddy out for a perceived lack of support. During the funeral, Black Rob s children and close family were encouraged to speak on the Whoa rapper before a man from the community, named Pete, took the stage and said the wrong people were being thanked before defending Diddy.
