The mega-sites join a growing number of vaccine providers forgoing appointments in recent weeks.
This week, Bergen County s vaccination center at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus began accepting walk-ins for the Moderna vaccine. Walk-ins are available this week from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and are only available to those who can verify that they live, work or study in Bergen County with identification or a letter.
The same is the case at Passaic County s mega-clinic in a former Modell s Sporting Goods store at Plaza 46, a strip mall at 1710 Route 46 west in Woodland Park. This week s walk-in hours were from noon to 4 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday and will be from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday.
NJ hospital testing effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines
Testing vaccine effectiveness
Although rare, there are cases of people contracting COVID even after getting vaccinated. A hospital in New Jersey is now offering a test which can help determine how well the vaccine is working once injected.
NEW JERSEY - This week Bergen Newbridge Medical Center became the first facility in New Jersey to offer immunity response testing for COVID-19 vaccines.
The test looks for the IgG antibody or the antibody for the spike protein induced by the vaccine versus the antibody tests that were previously available which detect the body s natural immunity against the coronavirus.
Wondering if the COVID vaccine worked? This N.J. hospital has state’s 1st vaccine antibodies test.

That’s now possible in New Jersey.
People can check if they have the full protective armor from their vaccine at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus, which announced the first vaccine immunity response test in the state.
The test operates similarly to a regular antibody test. It still detects natural antibodies for those who contracted the coronavirus. But it can now also detect antibodies stimulated by vaccines.
The eligibility expansion means a large swath of residents will join those hunting for the coveted appointments.
In recent months, those who were previously eligible or were volunteering to help eligible seniors struggling to navigate the online COVID vaccine system have learned how to navigate sites, when certain providers drop appointments and tips for acting quickly when you see an open appointment.
Some of those volunteers have kindly shared their tips and tricks with us. Here s what you should know as you begin your search for vaccine appointments:
First, don t make this mistake
If you are eligible and want to get the vaccine as soon as possible, do not wait for the state to email you with a link to make your appointment, advises Stephanie Hoyt of the New Jersey Covid Vaccine Volunteers.
