The Indianapolis 500 is set to be the largest sporting event in the world since the start of the pandemic, with 135,000 spectators permitted to attend The Greatest Spectacle in Racing next month.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway said Wednesday it worked with the Marion County Public Health Department to determine that 40% of venue capacity can attend the May 30 race on Memorial Day weekend. The speedway is the largest sporting facility in the world, with more than 250,000 grandstand seats and the ability to host close to 400,000 on race day throughout the entire property.

“The city and state have worked with us to identify the appropriate health and safety precautions so that we can successfully host a limited but very enthusiastic crowd, IMS president Doug Boles said in a release. The health and safety of everyone coming to IMS, along with central Indiana and the Hoosier state, have been paramount throughout this process.”
On the last Carb Day in 2019, Kool & the Gang and Foreigner performed for the yearly pre-circuit celebration. The Snake Pit infield celebration, which originally began 1920s, hosted EDM artists including Alesso and Skrillex in 2019. Approximately 30,000 people partied in the Snake Pit that year.
