NDTV anchor Ravish Kumar spreads fake news on paddy procurement

January 16, 2021 Share NDTV anchor Ravish Kumar came under a lot of criticism after spreading fake news on paddy procurement. In his program, Ravish displayed a poster shared by Public Distribution Minister Piyush Goyal on the 14th January episode of his program Prime Time with Ravish Kumar. He pointed to figures on the poster and accused the Modi Government of distorting facts.  Referring to the poster, he alleged that the Government data of procuring 534 lakh Metric Tonnes of paddy compared to 423 lakh Metric Tonnes in the previous year, thereby increasing the procurement by 26%, was false. The government called out Ravish for his fake news. In a letter to NDTV’s Editorial Director and President Sonia Singh, Alpana Pant Sharma, Additional Director General of the PIB said, “In a shocking display of poor journalism and sheer disregard of actual facts, Ravish Kumar of NDTV has resorted to incorrectly portraying paddy procurement by the government.”

Centre delaying release of funds to Punjab : The Tribune India

9967 Ruchika M Khanna Chandigarh, December 24 Amid the ongoing stand-off between the BJP-led Centre and farmers over the new agriculture laws, the Centre is adopting “dilly dallying tactics” over the release of funds to Punjab. A two member ministerial delegation comprising of state Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal and Food and Supplies Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu on Thursday met the Union Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Piyush Goyal in Delhi. They, however, were disappointed at the Union Minister giving them just assurances that the matter was being examined by the Finance Department. The Centre has held back Punjab’s Rural Development Fund worth Rs 1,200 crore, which Punjab’s Congress government alleges is an arbitrary decision. The state will lose these funds, if not released by December 31, when the current Cash Credit Limit allowed to purchase paddy expires.
