New Matter solution unifies the IoT connectivity experience
Silicon Labs has announced that wireless solutions are offered for development of Matter end products that support Thread, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth protocols. Matter, formerly named ‘Project Connected Home over IP’ or ‘CHIP’, is created to offer interoperable, reliable, secure connectivity over IoT devices and networks. Matter simplifies product development and the end-user experience by offering a unified connectivity standard for an extensive range of smart home and commercial applications covering LED bulbs, door locks, commercial lighting, HVAC, and access control. Silicon Labs’ Matter solution enhances the connected product experience across major ecosystems, including Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google.

Amazon, Apple and Google have joined forces to form a new standard for smart home devices, now called “Matter”. And Philips Hue has just announced that there will be a future update for its products that will make all Hue products compatible with Matter.
Matter was announced just a few days ago. It’s the new name for the Project Connected Home over IP (CHIP) that the three companies have been working on. And it is looking to roll out as soon as late 2021. So it’s going to be here in no time. This unified protocol should allow for new smart home products and older devices (that are still compatible) to work with smart home assistants like Amazon Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant.
Imagine a world where video cameras are not just watching and reporting for security, but have an even wider positive impact on our lives. Imagine that cameras control street and building lights, as people come and go, that traffic jams are predicted and vehicles are automatically rerouted, and more tills are opened, just before a queue starts to form.

The new standard is introduced by the Connectivity Standards Alliance which is an organization of tech giants like Google, Samsung, Apple, and Amazon among others. The decision to rebrand was announced yesterday, almost two years after the first time the companies worked together to organize standards when it comes to smart home devices.
The goal is to have the smart home devices connected easily and seamlessly. Initially, Matter will be able to support, Siri, Google Assistant, WiFi, Ethernet, Bluetooth LE, and Thread. The Connectivity Standards Alliance says MATTER
