Brooklyn DA Teaming Up With Local Clergy With Eyes On Putting An End To Recent Rash Of Gun Violence

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) There have been nearly 200 shootings in Brooklyn so far this year, more than any other borough.
As CBS2’s Hazel Sanchez reported Tuesday, the district attorney is teaming up with local clergy in hopes of reducing gun violence.
The increase in shootings is impossible to ignore. There have been 537 in New York City so far this year, which is nearly double the number reported over the same period in 2020.

In the aftermath of several distressing acts of anti-Semitic hate crimes in Brooklyn over the past few days, Chief of Department Rodney Harrison met on Sunday morning with Flatbush Shomrim, the Flatbush Jewish Community Coalition (FJCC), and local community leaders to hear their concerns and allay their fears.
After meeting with the representatives of the Flatbush community, Chief Harrison went with them on a walking tour of the neighborhood, where he dropped in on several stores to hear the concerns and fears of the residents and business owners.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. A Meiers Corners man was indicted on charges that include manslaughter in connection to the fatal Gowanus Expressway crash that killed a 30-year-old Greenridge woman in March, the Brooklyn District Attorney announced Tuesday.
Mark Dookhan, 31, a resident of the 300 block on Melba Street, was arraigned Monday and faces charges of second-degree manslaughter, second-degree vehicular manslaughter, second-degree assault, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, among others.
