Chief Secretary Ancil Dennis has publicly endorsed PNM Tobago Council political leader Tracy Davidson-Celestine as the island’s next Chief Secretary, if the party wins the January 25 THA election.
He did so on Sunday while addressing a PNM meeting at the Eric Hovel Recreation Ground, Calder Hall.
Referring to the findings of a recent NACTA poll, which suggested the PNM could win all of the 12 electoral districts, Dennis described as “erroneous” an aspect of the survey which suggested there is a struggle for leadership within the party.
Who is really the leader of the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP)?
PNM Tobago Council political leader Tracy Davidson-Celestine asked this question on Friday night during a political meeting at the Bethesda Multipurpose Facility, ahead of the January 25 THA election.
She said at the signing of the Code of Ethics, which was presided over by political analyst Dr Bishnu Ragoonath, earlier that day, she was shocked to hear, perhaps through a slip of the tongue, PDP deputy leader Farley Augustine announced as the party’s leader.
“This morning (Friday), we went to Channel Five to sign the Code of Ethics and I was of the opinion that Watson Duke was the political leader because we have not heard of any elections taking place in the PDP to elect a new political leader for the party,” she told supporters.

PNM candidate for Roxborough/Delaford, Neil Beckles, is urging the people of Roxborough to release the “historical baggage” they have been toting all their lives.
He was addressing a political meeting at the Roxborough Secondary School on Tuesday night, ahead of the January 25 Tobago House of Assembly election.
The meeting took place hours after the Prime Minister addressed the formal opening of the $98 million Roxborough Hospital on Bloody Bay Road.
Beckles is being challenged by Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) political leader Watson Duke.
The historical baggage he referred to was that People try to portray the PNM as the enemy,” he told supporters.

People’s National Movement (PNM) Tobago Council political leader Tracy Davidson-Celestine claimed Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) leader Watson Duke has been an absentee representative in the THA.
Duke is contesting the Roxborough/Delaford seat again in the January 25 THA election. He is being challenged by the PNM’s Neil Beckles.
Addressing a political meeting on Tuesday night at the Roxborough Secondary School, Davidson-Celestine said since she re-entered the assembly as a councillor, months ago, she observed Duke has been absent from many of its sittings.

After a Castara family faced its fourth fire in five weeks, social media users are speculating about the cause of the fires.
Fire Service officials say the first three fires at the home of Gloria George are still under investigation.
“This can’t be coincidental,” one Facebook user writes.
Another suggests getting the family “deliverance…spiritually or physically…get them out of the island bro or they may not be alive to tell the story”.
The comments trail an initial announcement about the fourth fire by one of the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) leaders, Farley Augustine.
On January 5th, Farley posted:
