The Maharashtra Health Department on Monday reported 15,051 new Covid cases, which is 1,559 lower than Sunday’s figure of 16,620 cases. The state has 1,30,547 active cases.
State Health Minister, Rajesh Tope on Monday afternoon said the incidence of infection was increasing but the death rate was still lower. In such a situation lockdown is not an option, but the restrictions would be further tightened,
The vaccination campaign in the state has been accelerated and at least 1.5 lakh people are being vaccinated every day. There was no shortage of vaccines and efforts were being made to increase the number of vaccinations in private and government hospitals, he said.

MUMBAI: Two ministers in the Maharashtra government, public health minister Rajesh Tope and water resources minister Jayant Patil, have tested positive for Covid-19. Sources said Tope was admitted to a private city hospital on Thursday afternoon.
He has been touring different districts of the state to review Covid-19 cases. “My Covid test has come out positive. My health is fine and I am following doctors’ advice,” said Tope in a tweet. He also appealed to all those who have come in contact with him to get themselves tested if they show symptoms. Water resources minister and state NCP chief Jayant Patil too said he has tested positive. Patil tweeted, “I have tested COVID positive. Whilst I am doing fine, I am taking appropriate medical advice and hope to recover soon. I shall be undertaking my duties via video-conference.” NCP leader Eknath Khadse and his daughter-in-law and MP Raksha Khadse too posted that they have tested positive.

The inquiry report into the Bhandara district hospital fire which claimed the lives of ten newborns was submitted to the Maharashtra government on January 19. Sources in the inquiry panel told India Today TV that the unfortunate incident could have been avoided if there were promptness and coordination on the part of hospital staff.

MUMBAI: There has been no case of adverse reaction or side-effects of Covid-19 vaccine in Maharashtra so far, state health minister Rajesh Tope said on Sunday, a day after the inoculation drive was undertaken across the country.
Talking to PTI, Tope also expressed confidence that everything will be safe .
As many as 18,425 beneficiaries, or 65 per cent of the target for the first day, were given vaccine shot across the state on Saturday, a health department official earlier said. There has absolutely been no report of any adverse reaction or side-effects of the vaccine following the drive on Saturday. Everything was safe, it will be safe, Tope said.
Maharashtra needs a total of 17.5 lakh vaccine doses, but we have been able to acquire 55% of the required number as of now, said state health minister Rajesh Tope. Any apprehension being expressed on account of deficient (Covid vaccine) supply is totally baseless and unfounded, says MoHFW
