Former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh on Monday filed a petition in the Bombay High Court seeking to quash the FIR registered against him by the Central Bureau of Investigation on the charges of corruption.
He also sought interim orders granting him protection from any coercive action.
The plea is likely to be heard by a division bench of Justices S S Shinde and Manish Pitale this week.
The CBI on April 21 registered an FIR against the NCP leader under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act which deals with illegal gratification obtained by a public servant and section 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday congratulated Bengal tigress and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee for single-handedly leading her party to victory in the West Bengal Assembly polls. The TMC was leading in over 200 of the 292 seats that went to polls in the eastern state.

Bollywood actors Varun Dhawan and Farhan Akhtar are the latest celebrities who have stepped up to aid COVID-19 relief efforts in India as cases surge exponentially in the country.
Dhawan has donated money towards procuring oxygen concentrators for hospitals as part of the Mission Oxygen India initiative that has seen the likes of Sachin Tendulkar also contribute.
“During uncertain times like these, our healthcare system needs utmost help. Since we know that oxygen is the need of the hour, I have contributed and partnered with @MissionOxygenIndia in their initiative to procure and donate lifesaving oxygen concentrators to hospitals across the country,” Dhawan shared in a statement on social media.
