Maharashtra: CBI registers inquiry to probe corruption charges against Anil Deshmukh ANI | Updated: Apr 07, 2021 06:48 IST Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 7 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a preliminary inquiry in connection with the Bombay high court order to probe allegations of corruption levelled against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. The information was confirmed on Tuesday by the CBI spokesperson. Bombay High Court had directed CBI to start a preliminary inquiry within 15 days into allegations. Deshmukh, a former Home Minister of the Maharashtra government had filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Tuesday challenging the Bombay High Court order directing a CBI s preliminary probe against him.

Singh, who is currently director general of the Home Guards, was removed from the Mumbai police chief s post last month, following the recovery of the vehicle with explosives near Ambani s house on February 25 and the subsequent murder of Thane businessman Manuskh Hiran. According to sources, Singh was summoned by the NIA to record his statement in the case. The NIA last month arrested assistant police inspector Sachin Waze for his alleged role in planting the vehicle with explosives near Ambani s house in south Mumbai.

Waze was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on March 13. He was on Wednesday produced before special NIA court judge P R Sitre, who extended his custody to the probe agency till April 9. The NIA had sought the extension of Waze s remand for further probe into the case.
