Reading IS Fundamental.Â
That was the message of I See Me Inc.âs, 11th annual âReal Men Read: You Can Be Virtually Anything if You Can Readâ held via YouTube Livestream on Friday.Â
Organizers noted the event was different than past readings.
âNormally when we host this event, it is held in an auditorium, filled with boys and men using literature as a means to evoke conversation,â said Devon Frazier, founder and executive director of I See Me. âAt I See Me, we feel that it is very important that our boys see books in the hands of a man. We want our boys to equate literacy with success . . . Our boys canât be what they canât see.â

He said the Indy Car event, the SEC Baseball Tournament, the Regions Tradition Golf Tournament and the Magic City Classic will return this spring.

When small-business owner Krishawn Ahmadou was starting out and needed information about filing a business license, she attended an event hosted by a newly formed organization dedicated to assisting entrepreneurs just like her.
“The problem I had was that I didn’t really know what I was doing, so everything I did was just research. I knew what I was doing with coding and billing, but on the business side, I didn’t really know,” she recalled.
That event was hosted by IGNITE! Alabama. Founded by Torin Brazzle in 2019, the nonprofit organization helps to educate and bridge the communication gap between service providers and small-business owners, especially minority and women business owners.
