Pennsylvania ranks near the top of the Humane Society s annual Horrible Hundred list of suspected puppy mill kennels

The Humane Society of the United States announced Monday the release of its annual report highlighting 100 problem puppy mills.
With eight entries on the Humane Society s Horrible Hundred list, Pennsylvania ranks near the top, the organization said.
Of the eight Pennsylvania entries, three are located in Lancaster County and a fourth is in Lebanon County, according to the Humane Society.
US Humane Society Calls Out Problematic Puppy Mill Inspections In Oklahoma
The Humane Society of the United States recently put out its list of the worst puppy mills in the country.
Oklahoma is not on the list, but just because Oklahoma didn t make the Horrible Hundred, doesn t mean the state is doing a good job cracking down on illegal puppy mills.
In fact, John Goodwin with the Humane Society said it s just the opposite. The fact is, there are some horrible puppy mills in Oklahoma, and it doesn t look like anybody is doing anything to try to help those dogs, Goodwin said.

The luxury we have when it comes to our food is that we don’t get to see how it’s made. We receive it all nicely packaged at the grocery store or market without having to think about how it got there. Ignorance allows us to eat without guilt. Ignorance, however, does not make a change in our eating habits and the food industry.
Since we can’t get away from our bodies, we should be thinking about how we treat them throughout the course of our lives. We’re told over and over again to get exercise, not to smoke, keep alcohol intake at a minimum, don’t overeat, etc., etc., etc.

On Monday, the Humane Society of the United States released its annual Horrible Hundred report, which details problem puppy mills and puppy brokers across the country.
Ohio has one of the largest numbers of puppy sellers on the list, with 16. Some of those breeders have been cited multiple times. Breeders can be included on the Horrible Hundred report for sick or injured dogs, inhumane and unsafe conditions, and a lack of protection from the heat and cold.
Humane society officials said puppies from these dealers can be sold to families in every state because puppy mills sell to pet stores across the country.
Ohio ranks second in the nation for number of problem puppy mills, trailing only Missouri s 21.

The Humane Society of the United States has released its Horrible Hundred list when it comes to problem puppy mills in 2021.
Sixteen of the nation s worst puppy mills were located in Ohio, which ranked second behind Missouri s 21. This year’s report uncovers dogs languishing across the country in puppy mills, many of which are licensed and still in business despite years of animal care violations, including citations for injured and emaciated dogs, dogs and puppies exposed to extreme weather, and dogs found living in filthy conditions, the Humane Society wrote in a statement.
