Local man living with autism turns recycled paper into beautiful works of art | HOUSTON LIFE | KPRC 2 HOUSTON – In honor of Autism Awareness Month, on April 28, KPRC 2 Insiders participated in a LIVE art demonstration and live chat hosted by Houston Life host Derrick Shore and KPRC 2 Meteorologist Justin Stapleton and featuring local eco-artist and special needs advocate Grant Maniér. The 25-year-old artist living with autism took Insiders step by step through the process of creating an eco-friendly piece of art as they watched or followed along. Days before the event, Insiders were given a list of supplies they would need.

Delaware workers on the autism spectrum drive the First State s new economy

Ernie Dianastasis Special to the USA TODAY Network When you hear the term that someone is on the autism spectrum, it means many things to many people. It is called a spectrum because every autistic person has a different level of ability or deficit in the areas of social skills, sensory sensitivity, cognitive function, motor skills and executive function. The unique combination of ability and deficit in each of these areas is exactly why it is so difficult to first diagnose and then properly support individuals on the spectrum.  It is why the more-than 5 million Americans on the spectrum to date have been over 80% under- or unemployed.

SUNY Empire State College hosts celebration of autistic and neurodiverse artists

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — SUNY Empire State College, in partnership with Anderson Center for Autism, hosted a month-long celebration of autistic and neurodiverse artists in Expressive Outcomes, a virtual art gallery. The gallery exhibit, part of the college s Autism Acceptance and Inclusivity Month, gave artists of all abilities the opportunity to showcase their artistic talent in an inclusive setting. On April 13, the gallery held its opening event, moderated by Dr. Noor Syed, director of the SUNY Empire Center for Autism Inclusivity, with featured guests Eliza Bozenski, chief development officer at Anderson Center for Autism, Susan Angeles, a founder of the Expressive Outcomes program at Anderson and Dr. Pamala Rogers, director of expressive art programs for The Shield Institute and its Pure Vision Arts program in New York City.
