FONDA The exclusive option agreement between Montgomery County and E29 Labs, announced during last week’s meeting of the Montgomery County Legislature’s Economic Development and Planning Committee, received Legislative approval during Tuesday’s meeting of the full Legislature.
The dormant former home of Beech-Nut Foods in Canajoharie, is one step closer to once again becoming an economic engine for the region as the result of an exclusive option agreement between Montgomery County and E29 Labs. E29 Labs is a team of experienced commercial cannabis production professionals that are ready to capitalize on the state’s recent legalization of the industry.

FONDA– The Montgomery County Legislature approved a firm Tuesday to begin cleanup and reuse plans on four Brownfield properties within the county.
In March of 2021, Montgomery County accepted a $300,000 United States Environmental Protection Agency Brownfields Community Wide Assessment Grant. Funds can be used to inventory, characterize, assess and conduct cleanup, planning and community involvement related activities for Brownfield sites along the Mohawk River.
Weston & Sampson was awarded the contract to begin working on the properties. Part of the EPA grant will also include public outreach and planning for all four sites.
The properties being reviewed are: Medical Linen Systems in St. Johnsville, 87 N. Many in the village and throughout Montgomery County are hoping the proposed E29 Labs cannabis cultivation and manufacturing company project will be the job-creating catalyst needed to move forward and restore the customer base of so many of the village’s downtown businesses.
On Tuesday the Montgomery County Legislature approved a five-year purchase option agreement with 102 Church Street LLC, the real estate holding company for E29 Labs, a business that has proposed building a $15 million to $30 million cannabis cultivation operation on the eastern portion of the old Beech-Nut property.

The Montgomery County Legislature voted 8-1 Tuesday night to approve a five-year purchase option agreement with 102 Church Street LLC of Rockland County, a real estate holding company for E29 Labs, to sell the 19.6 acre East side parcel of the former Beech-Nut baby food plant for $550,000.
E29 Labs has proposed building a $15 million to $30 million cannabis cultivation and manufacturing company at the location.
Montgomery County Executive Matt Ossenfort said E29 Labs is owned by its company president Sheldon Roberts, its chief executive officer Shelley Roberts and cannabis-business veteran Michael Dundas, the founder of cannabis company Sira Naturals in Massachusetts, which he sold in 2019.
