Detectives announced a new Cold Case Warm Up initiative, featuring unsolved crimes on a digital billboard that can be seen by I-45 drivers heading into Montgomery County. The hope is to shed new light into decades-old cases, like the one involving John and Pansy Stewart, forgotten by many. John Stewart Sr., 78, and his wife, Pansy, 74, were found dead in August 1995 in their living room inside their house on Foster Drive.

Andrew Cuomo’s executive orders to adopt a police reform plan, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has completed their plan with a focus on community needs. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office released its police reform plan last Monday, in which there will be a public session at the Montgomery County Legislature’s February meeting; the plan will also be submitted to the Legislature to be voted on. If approved, it will then be submitted to the state. “It was a ton of work, it was a team effort here with many, many people at hand developing that plan, and I’m proud of the staff and proud of the plan and we think we’re headed in the right direction,” said Montgomery County Sheriff Jeff Smith.

Intoxicated driver causes rollover crash in Montgomery County

Crawforsville Police Chief Resigns

Jan 29, 2021 12:51 PM Crawfordsville Police Chief Mike Norman resigned Friday but will continue serving on the force in his former rank, Mayor Todd Barton announced. No reason was given. Norman, a 28-year department veteran who was chief for nine years, will serve as detective lieutenant. “I would like to thank Mike for his many years of service as Police Chief,” Barton said in a statement. Barton appointed Det. Lt. Aaron Mattingly as the new chief. Mattingly joined the department as a patrolman in 2007 after three years as a jail deputy and a road deputy with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
