Nearly 90% of postponed non-urgent surgeries in the North have been completed SHARE ON: At the beginning of the pandemic in March,  17,418 non-urgent surgeries with a wait time of longer than 6 months were postponed across BC. On May 7th, Northern Health was able to begin contacting patients for non-urgent surgeries and 4,758 people have been contacted as of November 22nd. Since November 12th, 89% of the postponed surgeries in the North have been completed, just slightly below the province’s 90% completion rate. The waitlist for non-urgent surgeries in the North is now at 3,853 even though 511 people have been removed from the list as of November 22nd.

Children s Hospital. Dr. Andrew Campbell, a specialist in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, received full privileges to perform surgery at the hospital in 2006, according to a December 11 ruling by Justice Gordon C. Weatherill. But the physician eventually came in conflict with Dr. Sanjiv Gandhi, who became the hospital s head of the pediatric cardiovascular and thoracic surgery division in 2010. This was revealed in court after the Provincial Health Services Authority filed a judicial-review application.

BC sees its first Covid-19 vaccination

by Province of British Columbia on Tuesday Dec 15 2020 Today marks the first day of British Columbia’s provincewide COVID-19 immunizations, the most comprehensive vaccine program to ever be delivered in B.C. Over the coming days, approximately 4,000 health-care workers in British Columbia will be rolling up their sleeves to receive the first approved COVID-19 vaccine. Nisha Yunus, a 64-year old residential care aid was one of the first people in British Columbia to receive the COVID-19 immunization. Yunus has worked in the same long-term care home in the Vancouver Coastal Health region for 41 years, all in the same unit and on the same floor.
