EDWARDSVILLE A woman claims she was thrown from a shuttle bus at Anderson Hospital after the driver suddenly accelerated while she was attempting to exit the bus.
Christine Loyd Massie filed a complaint May 5 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Anderson Hospital, alleging negligence.
The plaintiff alleges in her complaint that she was at Anderson Hospital on Aug. 14, 2019, for a doctor appointment. She claims she parked her car in the medical building park lot and boarded a shuttle bus. The plaintiff claims that while exiting the bus, the bus accelerated and caused her to fall from the bus onto the parking lot and suffer injuries. Specifically, the plaintiff claims she suffered extensive injuries to her head, lower back, hip and elbow. The plaintiff alleges the hospital bus driver negligently made an abrupt acceleration and drove the bus at an excessive rate of speed despite knowing she was trying to exit the bus. She also claims

Just as he did with Welch, Jeff Rogers, director of the Illinois Press Foundation, asked Harmon for his thoughts on the bill sponsored by Sen. Steve Stadelman, D-Rockford, which would create a local media task force. It passed through the Senate, but must now make its way through the House Labor Committee. Before letting Harmon answer, Rogers first offered his take, which stems from a career of tracking such legislation.
“I know one of the things people think about when they hear ‘task force’ is something that goes somewhere to die, in terms of recommendations,” Rogers said. “But how do you think this particular task force could help newspapers, and what do you think the prospects are for it to pass this legislative session?”

EDWARDSVILLE An Illinois company claims the tenant of one of its California business properties sub-leased and stored hazardous material on the property in breach of the lease agreement.
Palm Run LLC filed a complaint April 27 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Duden Enterprises Inc., Bryngelson Prints, a sole proprietorship of Harlen Duden, and Harlan Duden, alleging breach of lease agreement.
Palm Run alleges in its complaint that it entered into a lease agreement with the defendants for building space at a business park located on Crafton Avenue in Redlands, Calif., on April 18, 2019. The plaintiff alleges the defendants have failed to pay rent and have an unpaid balance of $97,269.30.

An inspection company and property management company claim a building inspector assumed risk of harm and contributed to his own injuries when the stairs at a foreclosed Glen Carbon property collapsed, causing him to fall into the basement.
Plaintiff Thomas Harpstrite filed his original complaint on April 1 in Madison County Circuit Court. He then filed an amended complaint on April 30 in order to correctly name the defendants. Truist Bank was incorrectly named as BB&T Bank, and Safeguard Properties Management LLC was incorrectly named as Safeguard Properties LLC. The suit also names GMH Inspections Inc. as a defendant.
Safeguard Properties Management answered the complaint on April 27 through attorney Richard Korn of Fox Smith LLC in St. Louis, denying liability. Korn filed a similar answer on behalf of GMH Inspections on May 3.
EDWARDSVILLE A minor girl is suing a motorist after she allegedly suffered severe injuries while riding as a passenger when the vehicle struck a tree.
Kiara Slattery, a minor by her mother and next of friend, Bobbie Slattery, and Bobby Slattery individually, filed a complaint April 26 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Gage Ferguson, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, Kiara Slattery was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Ferguson and traveling on Daiber Road in Highland on May 17, 2019. The plaintiffs allege that Ferguson was speeding and failed to keep his car under proper control when it struck a tree. The plaintiffs claim Slattery suffered severe injuries to her head, neck, back and teeth. They also claim Slattery suffered mental anguish and has incurred medical treatment expenses as a result of the crash caused by Ferguson.
