(WLBT) - Absentee voting in municipal elections across the Magnolia State is expected to begin Monday. However, that won’t happen in the City of Canton because the Democratic primary ballot has yet to be finalized. Five candidates have been disqualified by the Canton Municipal Democratic Executive Committee to run in the city’s 2021 Democratic primary and three of those candidates are challenging that decision in Madison County Circuit Court.

Woman alleges she tripped on exposed rebar in East Alton parking lot

Hunter EDWARDSVILLE A woman claims she tripped on a piece of rebar from a concrete parking bumper at the Secretary of State s Office in East Alton and suffered injuries.  Diana Tinnon filed a complaint Jan. 21 in the Madison County Circuit Court against St. Louis Regional Airport, alleging negligence.  According to her complaint, Tinnon was attempting to renew her license at the Secretary of State s Office located on Terminal Drive in East Alton, a property leased by the defendant. She alleges that after parking her car in the parking lot and walking towards the office building, her foot became caught on an exposed rebar on a broken concrete parking bumper. Tinnon claims she fell and hit the ground and landed on her knee and wrist. 

New Albany man indicted for alleged shooting

Demarcus Green, 40, allegedly shot Tay Berry with an AR 15 on June 18, 2020. Green was also indicted on a charge of felon in possession of a firearm. He was convicted in 2017 in Madison County Circuit Court for sale of cocaine, the indictment states. He faces up to 20 years in prison on the aggravated assault charge and up to 10 years for the felon in possession of a firearm charge. The shooting occurred at a residence in the 200 block of Simmons Street. Green allegedly shot the victim twice—once in the arm and once in the rear thigh area. The victim was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County and then airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
