Trials to resume in Madison County after stopping for coronavirus

Trials are set to resume in Madison County after weeks of delays due to coronavirus.
March 8, all Madison County Circuit Court jury trial dockets and all district Traffic, Misdemeanor, Small Claims and District Civil dockets will resume, according to a ruling from Judge Ruth Ann Hall.
Hall’s ruling states this is “a result of the decrease in positive coronavirus cases in Madison County and additional safeguards” to protect the citizens of Madison County, court staff, attorneys and juries.

EDWARDSVILLE A motorist claims claims he was injured when he came upon a vehicle crash site caused by an alleged drunk driver.
Roy McMullen filed a complaint Feb. 4 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Wyatt Criley, alleging negligence.
According to his complaint, McMullen was driving his vehicle northbound on Route 4 in Madison County on the morning of June 6, 2020. He alleges that he collided into Criley s vehicle and another vehicle that were in the middle of the road and obstructing the roadway. McMullen claims that prior to reaching the area where the collision occurred, Criley had been driving intoxicated. The suit states that Criley was attempting to make a left turn onto the Highway US-40 when he struck the front side of another vehicle. EDWARDSVILLE A flight nurse for an Illinois air medical service provider claims she is not being compensated for overtime work.
Shannon Dugger filed a complaint Feb. 5 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Air Methods Corporation, alleging violation of the Illinois Minimum Wage Law, unjust enrichment and willful and wanton negligence.
According to Dugger s complaint, she is employed as a flight nurse for Air Methods Corporation as a non-exempt employee at its Litchfield base. She claims she is generally required to work two 24-hour shifts per week and that she spends all 24 hours either responding to emergency calls or at Air Methods facilities so she is able to swiftly respond to emergency calls. Dugger alleges that she worked more than 40 hours per week with Air Methods failing to pay one and one-half times her regular pay rate in overtime pay. She further alleges that Air Methods required her to agree to treat eight hours

The parents of a Granite City woman ask the court to sanction a man and his attorney for filing a lawsuit accusing them of failing to protect the man’s brother, who they claim abused their daughter, broke into a home they didn’t own, and was shot and killed when they weren’t there.
Defendants Marvin and Cynthia Mills filed a motion for sanctions through attorney Thomas Maag of the Maag Law Firm in Wood River. They seek sanctions against plaintiff Ronald Wilderness and attorney Derek Rudman of St. Louis “for filing, serving and prosecuting an utterly frivolous case.”
