The family of a man from Tring who died after an incident on the Grand Union Canal in Aylesbury on Monday (April 26) have paid tribute to him.
Thames Valley Police attended a report of an assault on the Grand Union Canal near Broughton in Aylesbury at around 12.20pm. On attendance, a man was found with serious injuries.
He tragically died at the scene despite efforts of officers and paramedics.
Clive Porter
Following a formal identification procedure today (Thursday, April 29), the victim has been identified as Clive Porter, 63, from Tring.
Mr Porter previously served as a police officer for Hertfordshire Constabulary.

River and Canal Trust chief executive Richard Parry has released a message about an incident that took place on the Aylesbury Arm of the Grand Union Canal on Monday 26 April where a man was sadly killed.
“Sadly, one of our team died yesterday on the Grand Union Canal towpath in Aylesbury, in an incident which is the subject of a police murder investigation. This tragic loss is deeply distressing for us all. We are sharing the police’s appeal urging anyone with information about the incident, no matter how insignificant, to come forward and assist the investigation.

A woman has been arrested. Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Andy Shearwood, of the Thames Valley Police Major Crime Unit, said: “We need the public’s help to establish what happened on the canal path of the Grand Union Canal near Broughton in Aylesbury at about 12.20pm today.
