The first wave of medical personnel from the North Ottawa Community Health System celebrated receiving the COVID-19 vaccination Friday morning in a repurposed clinic space at the Grand Haven hospital.
âThis is great,â said NOCHS Chief Medical Officer Dr. Henry Assad. âHopefully, this will mean the beginning of the end of this virus.â
âIâm excited,â said Dr. Dirk Bakker, an orthopedic surgeon at North Ottawa Community Hospital. âThis was a long time in coming, but it still doesnât mean we are free and clear.â
The hospital system received its first round of its 975 vaccination doses Thursday morning, and officials said they were prepared to move on to getting the staff vaccinated.

ALLENDALE, MI Police said they are awaiting a toxicology report on a Grand Valley State University student found dead on campus and ask for the community’s patience as they continue to investigate the death.
GVSU police on Thursday, Dec. 17 said the report on 18-year-old Taylor DeRosa may not be available until “well into the new year.
A toxicology report usually involves examining a person’s blood and organs to look for toxins, alcohol, controlled substances and other items that might cause or contribute to someone’s death.

ALLENDALE, Mich. â Students at Grand Valley State University are grieving the loss of a fellow Laker. A candlelight vigil was held on campus near the clock tower to honor the life of Taylor DeRosa.
DeRosa s body was discovered December 12 by someone jogging in the area. The investigation into her death is ongoing with police releasing few details about what happened to the freshman from Royal Oak.
Hundreds of students, both those who knew DeRosa and those who did not, came out to pay respects to the young woman, who was considered a fierce advocate for issues she felt passionate about. She also set out to help others she met, even serving as a camp counselor for several years.
