NEW DELHI/ KOLKATA: Barely three days since BJP lost the West Bengal assembly elections to Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, veteran BJP leader from the state, Tathagata Roy was the first one to blame his own party leaders for the defeat. He told TOI that he restrained himself until elections were over to air his views. My primary loyalty is to the party. But I decided to raise my concerns after the election was over, Roy said.
While he ensured Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah who led BJP’s high-pitched campaign in the state against Banerjee, were absolved, he squarely blamed other central and state leaders for the poll debacle.

In the 2021 West Bengal elections, the Trinamool Congress has faced its greatest challenge to date and has emerged with its strongest performance ever, both in terms of seats and vote share.
